When listening to the presentation on Cyber bullying it was very interestingto see how much is occurs in schools today. I am definatly guilty of sending mean messages to friends in a joking manner but i don't think i will be doing that anymore. Being in a vulnerable position as a teacher i think we need to be more carful as to what we write on the internet and how it can be used. As a future educator i will definatly talk to my students about how cyber bullying can really cause harm and give them a list of repercussions that could occur if they were caught cyber bullying. A recent example I came across that is similar to this topic is the tragic news report about Jesse Logan. Jesse Logan, or Jessica Logan by some, was a teen girl from Cincinnati, Ohio. She studied at Cincinnati’s Sycamore High School and hoped to be enrolled to University of Cincinnati to study graphic design. She was pretty and smart. At an age when many teens are easy to fancy their lovers, Jessie Logan had a boyfriend herself. She trusted him so much to the extent that led Jessie to make a definitely stupid (and deadly) move ever–smsed nude pictures she took using the handphone to the boy.The nightmare immediately began haunting Jessica Logan after the breakup from her boyfriend. He smsed her intimate pics to other female schoolmates who consequently harassed Jesse, called her a slut and and a hoe through personal interaction, text messages and internet E-mails. Having suffered all the insults she shouldn’t have received, Jessie Logan became miserable and depressed, afraid even to go to school. Still, she was brave enough to appear on a local TV station in a purpose to give her advice on other girls not to do the “sexting”, in her words, “I just want to make sure no one else will have to go through this again.” Sadly, two months after that TV interview, probably because she couldn’t endure more bullies, Jessica Logan ended the life by hang herself in the bedroom after she attended the funeral of a friend who committed suicide.(MSNBC). This was a horrible tragic story i found which really touched home with me.people make mistakes and no mistake a child does should cause them to be depressed and commit suicide. This shows how cyber bullying and bullying in general can cause someone to break down and its something that we as future eudcators must monitor

Wow!!!!
ReplyDeleteI had to read this post a number of times. It made me so sad and so angry at the same time. I wanted to comment on how futile and how stupid this could be. The most unfortunate thing is that this should have been avoided. I hate thinking that it's too late. I think by being more attentive to our students we can at least help.
